About Safe Signals

Safe Signals LLC builds Muster, a personnel accountability and incident-command system used during active fire-ground incidents.

Muster is built on a small set of architectural ideas: operational software, not records management; offline-first peer mesh; event-sourced audit trail; alignment with the NFPA standards that govern fire-service personnel accountability. The How it works page covers the technical detail.

How Muster handles your data

A few facts about how the product handles department data:

Safety features always work.

Every safety-critical feature (Mayday, evacuation, exposure capture, PAR, ISO authority) works at full authority regardless of license state, payment status, or technical state. A Mayday declared on a device with an expired license still propagates to every other device on the mesh. This is an architectural property of the system.

Per-department data isolation.

Each department's data is scoped to its own personnel. During a multi-department mutual-aid incident, each department retains sovereignty over its own personnel records.

OSHA-required retention.

Occupational exposure records are retained for 30+ years per OSHA 1910.1020 (Tier 2 and above).

NFPA alignment.

Muster is aligned with NFPA 1550 and 1580. Chapter-level documentation is published showing which features align with which requirements. There is no third-party certification scheme for software that aligns with these standards — they are department-program standards, not product certifications.
